| Instructor Bio: | Merit's life path has been a non-stop exploration of various art forms. These include theatrical costume design, hair, make-up and wardrobe deign for all genders, cooking and baking, photography, and sewing and quilting. And worth mentioning are his many years working in education with special needs children and adults. Five years ago, Merit discovered how quilting fit his aesthetic and gave him the opportunity to express his excellent color sense and practice his innate skills in composition. As a painter mixes color, Merit mixes the fixed colors of cloth (and sometimes over-dyes), using harmony, emotion, and story. He has developed a non-traditional style that frees him from relying on published patterns. With an open heart and winning ways, he has stepped into teaching to share his love of the quilting art form, making it very approachable, and "stepping outside the box" to practice progress, not perfection. The basic skills students will learn with Merit's guidance are accented with fun and joy of handcrafting. "Believing makes it happen...And so it is." |
