Sashiko Stitching Workshop - Basic Stitches & Beyond
Learn the basic Sashiko stitches and build upon them to add embellishment to textile pieces. Basic Stitches First Friday of the Month , 6-9pm or Kugari-Sashi Stitching (weaving of thread utilizing basic Sashiko stitch foundation) Friday Sept. 25, 6-9pm. $60/session

| Instructor Bio: | Yumiko was born and raised in Miyazaki prefecture of southern Japan. From a young age, she was surrounded by Japanese fabrics; her grandmother was a kimono maker, and her mother is a tailor. She was taught French embroidery techniques and knitting from her mother and at school. She studied an English course at a branch of Orange Coast University in California, and afterward returned to Japan to teach knitting embroidery at a yarn shop. After moving to the United States 30 years ago, she taught crochet, knitting, and embroidery at a yarn shop in New Jersey for two years. She started sashiko embroidery a few years ago and is currently creating her own unique sashiko art. |
