Sashiko Stitching Workshop - Basic Stitches & Beyond

Learn the basic Sashiko stitches and build upon them to create and embellish. Fantastic skill to have for repairs and to add interest to an existing textile. Under the excellent guidance of instructor Yumiko Albertson, you will practice and incorporate your stylistic personality within the tradition of Sashiko and Kugari-Sashi Stitching. Friday May 15, or June 5. or June 19th, 6-9pm. $60/session

| Instructor Bio: | Yumiko was born and raised in Miyazaki prefecture of southern Japan. From a young age, she was surrounded by Japanese fabrics; her grandmother was a kimono maker, and her mother is a tailor. She was taught French embroidery techniques and knitting from her mother and at school. She studied an English course at a branch of Orange Coast University in California, and afterward returned to Japan to teach knitting embroidery at a yarn shop. After moving to the United States 30 years ago, she taught crochet, knitting, and embroidery at a yarn shop in New Jersey for two years. She started sashiko embroidery a few years ago and is currently creating her own unique sashiko art. |
